[Petition] Support the removal of region locks. (128 Signatures and counting!)
This is by no means an immediate demand or request to drop everything and work on this immediately; we only want to get some numbers to show how much support there is for a change in this system, since this has seemed to be a popular idea.

A signature for this petition is a sign of support for the eventual removal of the in-game and website region locks.

Don't want to read everything below? Here's the short version!

Wakfu has region locks in place preventing players from playing on all the servers and viewing the website in other languages. (In a note by Troyle, the website locks will be lifted on March 1st when the NA website closes and becomes the EN website.)

Don't like those? Want players to play on any server they want? Sign this petition!

Most of us at least know a little bit about these restrictions by now.

Wakfu has region locks in place. When a player's account is created, their account becomes bound to the most relevant server based on the location that the account was created from, which means the account becomes unable to access any other server.

The region locks have several negative implications and reasons why they should be removed for the players.

The region locks prevent a player from playing in a community that would be most appropriate for them.
If a player has recently moved or is otherwise uncomfortable with a certain language, they may want to pick a server that has a language that they're comfortable speaking in. With region locks, a player may get stuck in a community with a less desirable language. (A German-speaking player could end up in Aerafal, or an English-speaking player ending up in Elbor as a couple of examples.)

A player may have friends in a different community.
Many players in Wakfu came from Dofus. As Dofus didn't have any region locks in place, many players in Dofus were in guilds and made friends with people all over the world. Trying out Wakfu, players would want to play with those same friends that they made in Dofus. Not just limited to Dofus, people on the internet can easily make friends from anywhere else in the globe. The region locks separate and prevent those people from playing with each other.

Region locks make communication and information more limited and difficult.
Wakfu has locks both in the game and on the Wakfu website. If a user is logged in and attempts to go to a different language community, the player gets redirected back to the home page of their own language community.

A player can get around this by logging out before switching the language to view the other website, but in doing so become unable to communicate with the other communities. This makes players unable to share information and prevents them from answering questions or offering advice, even if they are fluent in the language and knowledgeable enough to help other players.
(In a note by Troyle, the website locks will be lifted on March 1st when the NA website closes and becomes the EN website.)

Players may go through dangerous means to circumvent the locks.
With reasons to want to go around the locks, inexperienced players may put themselves in danger to go around them and accidentally download malicious software or going to other potentially harmful websites that they wouldn't have gone to had the locks not been in place.

The end of the Square Enix partnership.
One of the major reasons for the locks was due to the Square Enix partnership with Ankama.

As the publishers for Wakfu in North America, Square Enix hosted the Nox server and influenced the prices of the NA subscriptions and boutique.

If an NA player purchased subscriptions or ogrines from a non-NA website, or a non-NA player purchased subscriptions or ogrines from the NA website, the money couldn't be split or kept track of correctly, and one of the sides would lose out on their fair share. The locks were one of the measures put in place to help manage the players.

With Square Enix leaving, there is less motivation to keep the locks in place.

To sign, just make a post that makes some kind of mention that you're signing it.

Saying "Signed" is enough.

I'll also add your name if you make a post that otherwise shows you're in support of the idea.

I'll do my best to not add names that don't want to be on there. If you see your name on there and you didn't want it to be, just let me know!

In Inside Ankama On Air - Episode 45, it was mentioned that some time after the Square Enix publisher change, it was possible that Ankama might maybe possibly start to consider the idea of removing the region locks, although there are no plans for it yet.

That gave me the idea to start this petition. If this works out, maybe something could happen in like 2015 or something. Until then, make sure to sign if you agree with the idea of removing the locks.

Crazy people made petitions on the NA forums every once in a while. Yeah. d:

I thought the forum merge would be a good time to post this.

Keep any discussion free of insulting and flaming!

Signed, but not for the merge of all servers, but for the servers that are dead or slowly increasing in population.

Oh sorry. I should have been more clear.

This isn't asking for the merge of any servers.

It's just asking that we be allowed to pick any server we want is all. If the locks are removed, I'm not expecting any merge to occur.

Wakfu has region locks in place preventing players from playing on all the servers and viewing the website in other languages.

Just a clarification here: on March 1st the NA website will cease to exist.
North American players will be redirected to the EN website but will be able to change the language freely.

Have fun sifting through piles of angry, rude, and obnoxious players, along with vast mountains of duped gear.

Okay.

Thank you for the clarification.

Although I highly doubt it would happen seeing as that's a money loss for Ankama.

Everyone should be able to join rem as it is meant to be an international-english speaking server.

Agree with spaz, if it's international it should be truly international! That means everyone ^^
