Direction-Facing-Based Strategy
I noticed that one of Srams' support spells is Art of the Spank, which deals with damage done from behind the enemy. This, in my opinion, is freaking genius. This puts so much more strategy into what you do with your character positioning in a battle. So I made this thread so we can discuss this addition to the strategy aspect.

One strategy: If you're trying to move, but need to pass a Tackle/Dodge test because of an adjacent enemy, make sure you're facing towards the opponent first. It won't provide any numeric benefit to actually passing the test, but it makes sure that if you fail, you don't end up ending your turn with your back or side showing to your opponent.

Actually, any attack will do more damage from behind ... and I think but am not sure that attacks from the side also have a slight damage bonus - anyone got evidence of this or against it ?
I totally agree that this makes positionning much more interesting. When fighting in groups, it is always interesting to take position at both ends of an enemy. This way, at least one of you willl get a chance to strike from the back. This also gives particular interest to spells that will change the disrection the enemy faces. |

Yes, you get a bonus for side attacks (half the bonus you'd get for a rear-attack).
Probably one of the easiest ways to get a side-attack vs Monsters is to set-up close to them at the start of the fight, they naturally face towards the border between set-up areas, so if you're off to the side you can walk forward and hit them from the side. Another trick is only useful vs Tofu at the moment. Their normal attack has a range of 2, so if you're within that range they won't move. If you're just at the maximum range, you won't be tackled if you try to move (assuming nothing else can tackle you either). This means you can walk the corners of their range to hit them in the side, then move back again. Each time you'll hit them in the side, they'll attack back, but then you can reposition to hit them in the side again. This post has been edited by GoldfishGod: 2 Jan 2009, 11:14 |

Side attack is also possible with black gobbals and their bigger brothers when they use their attack that pushes you back one step.
Next turn, you step aside once and forward twice and you're on their side. |

Also, a good trick as a Sacrier is to use Assult when an enemy is facing you:
P>_<E P= Player, E = Enemy and this will happen: <E_P> Just move forward the extra grid space: <E<P And ATTACK! |

I'll keep that in mind when thinking of choosing a sacrier.

If you have 7ap and you are a sacrier this is what you do. Req: any lvl asault and a good weapon( this is for sacriers who specialise in 2 handed swords because the swords use 4 ap) 1 extra mp unless you use asault right next to the monster Now use asault on the monster(make sure you have 1 mp left if you are doing it from range), you will have 4 ap left. Then you use your weapon and hit it in the back which i think is a 10% or 15% bonus which could be very helpful |

The problem with art of the spank right now is that is doesn't work the the air Sram's spell "Coup Penetrant" (sorry I fogot the english name) so it loses a bit of it's potentiel. However that'll be fixed in the v2
