For decades, the greatest scientists have been studying that mysterious energy rediscovered after the Chaos of Ogrest - Wakfu. The greatest researchers have been working to understand its origin, function, and how to control it.

Until now, many theories have emerged on Wakfu and Stasis. The last officially recognized by the CUGA was that Wakfu represented Nature’s balance, the ideal state for all life in all ecosystems. In contrast, Stasis was the imbalance, the overcrowding and the under-population of a species.

This theory seemed to have been confirmed by the arrival of Gemlins - adventurer’s eternal companions that held immense knowledge and were a reflection of their master’s souls - turning blue when their master was a Wakfu follower and purple when their heart was thought to be more Stasis inclined.

And so it is with these instructions from the CUGA that Clan Members, the protectors of our land, have made sure that law and order was enforced on their ecosystem.

But the latest research by the Prophet Daryl came to question this theory. If you still doubted that Gemlins where pranksters, you’ll soon change your mind.

The offspring of Incarnam have come clean. They’ve been playing us for months! Their representation of our karma is wrong...

After that revelation and a series of inconclusive interrogations with them - the creatures have not proven worthy to provide a clear and consistent explanation - all theories are once again under consideration.

We are back to basics ... Wakfu would appear to be the glue of nature and the symbol of creation. While Stasis, is the juice of machinery, synonymous with death and destruction. Are they the two sides of the coin? Could they be opposite energies?

While waiting for the results, the CUGA has decided not to change the current ecosystem and territory management system. But you must prepare yourself - changes are on their way, and anything could happen...

While some people go on vacation and others are busy building their dream summer destination, you’re the type who would rather use the boardwalk as your own personal catwalk?

Well this is your chance to shine! Show us your most beautiful attire and win an exclusive forum avatar! But beware, you only have one week to do it, and choose your set carefully, we will only accept one entry per person.

You have until July 18, 2010 at midnight (GMT+1) to submit your entry! Post a screenshot of your character, with a small description of your outfit in this thread! On July 19th, we will choose the most fashionable one who will receive an exclusive forum avatar with their own character!

Only one entry per person will be accepted. Please note that once you have sent your screenshot you cannot change your mind (editing your message will automatically disqualify you). Also note that you cannot post an outfit that has already been posted before, fashion is all about originality after all! ^^

Best of luck to all of you and may the classiest man win!

It wasn’t an easy task to determine the winners of the Create-a-set contest - we’ve received numerous unique and wonderful artworks, but a choice had to be made. The judges, Sephy, Zidrune and myself, have come to a consensus.

The sets were judged on creativity, originality, humour and coherence with the Wakfu universe.  We’ve chosen the top 3, and have two special mention categories, one for arsenal, and the other for the Jury’s individual favorites!

With two classes, Enutrof and Sadida, still to be added, the game-designers wanted to know what gameplay features you prefer, in order to possibly incorporate them in the new classes. =)

So please voice your opinion and don’t hesitate to leave a comment!

Hey guys,

As you might have noticed, there have been no Dev Hours or updates recently, but don’t worry, you haven’t been forgotten!

As you know “beta” is synonymous with “work in progress” but it also means that nothing is set in stone and that everything could change at any given time. And so, the game-designers and developers have decided to take in your advice, and look at the different aspects of the game and gameplay, and make the necessary modifications.

Everyone is quite busy and since we are analyzing what needs to be changed there is very little to share with you at present.
We will keep you updated as soon as we can.

Also, please note that there will not be a patch in June.

Hey Guys!

Sorry for not posting earlier, but I was away last Friday and by the time I got back, the info had already changed and, what was posted on the French side was no longer 100% accurate. I was waiting for it to be set in stone to post it for you, but to this day, it still isn't, and I think you've waited long enough.
So, without further ado, I'll give you the info I have now, my apologies for it being a bit vague...

Things do change pretty quickly around here, and the schedule for patches has been on the operating table all week.

So I cannot assure you that there will be a patch in June, because there might not be.

And I cannot confirm that your characters will be reset with the next patch, it might not happen.

There might be a wipe, but there also might not be. It's under discussion.

I can tell you what the different teams are working on, but since a lot of changes are under way, you might not see these changes in the next patch.

Here is a little preview list of what is being worked on : the two last classes (Sadida and Enutrof), challenges, interfaces, crafts, diseases, wakfu/stasis balance.
And of course, the usual - class balancing and bug fixes.

You should see big modifications to all of those, but we cannot guarantee when you will see them.

Because of a technical glitch, accounts who did not have access to the closed beta were able to access the servers after patch 0.215.
The glitch was fixed this morning and there is once again an access requirement in order to log on.

'Illegal' accounts who logged in during that period will get full access in order not to penalize anyone.
Access will be given during the course of the day  on Monday*.

QUOTE (NULLTheHunted @ 23 Apr 2010, 23:55) *
The dynamic atmosphere which includes changing shadows and rain/snow is a great feature of wakfu. However, why stop there? We could implement ways that the atmosphere affects plants and animals. ie. rain and sunshine increases growth rate, snow decreases growth, animals run for shelter or are less aggresive in battle when it rains. etc.

That's already in the works to a certain degree smile.gif

Your success rate for planting crops will depend on the weather - if it's drastically too hot or too cold, it could stop you from planting a a certain type of plant. On the other hand, if the conditions are just right, your success rate will skyrocket and your plants will grow faster.

Potentially, it could also make special mobs appear (that only come out in the rain for example).

It's still a work in progress, but it is underway. =)

First off thank you for your comments and feedback!

Even though English isn’t my first language, I made sure to read all of them! I have to admit that, since you’re feedback is usually more thought-out or, I should say, “mature” than the French community, it really helps! But… don’t tell them I said that ^^

As you might have guessed, creating a dynamic ecosystem is a constant battle. There’s also the added difficulty of integrating a system that is both easy enough for casual gamers, and sufficiently advanced for hardcore gamers. That’s why we experiment with different solutions to try and balance it out.

But rest assured, on the next patch, I will drastically increase the chances to succeed when ‘planting’ monsters, that way even if other players are constantly killing your mobs, you’ll still be able to increase the population.

It might be a simple solution, but that coupled with a few other adjustments, should really do the trick and help even things out.

Happy gaming!

Hey guys,

Here are the modifications for the 0.215 update.
Wakfu v0.215 will be online later today, Wednesday, April 28, 2010.

New Playable Class - Osamodas
  • Its gameplay is based on the capture and summoning of creatures in combat
    • Capturing and summoning is made through the Gob-Gob familiar, prized possession of any self-respecting Osa.
    • Only creatures from the ecosystem (and a few other creatures) can be captured, provided that they have a level equal to, or less than that of the Osa. The weaker a creature is, the easier the catch. There are whispers that Will is also involved.
    • The captured creature can then gain levels, becoming more powerful. Once a creature is fully domesticated, it is possible to rename them.

  • Osamodas use Leadership points in a slightly different way from everybody else
    • Each creature has a points value of Leadership points.
    • For the sake of balance, summoning a gobbly only costs 1 point of Leadership, but a Gobball Warchief costs 3.
    • To compensate for this, the Osamodas can always use the Animal Benediction spell, to temporarily boost his Leadership points.

  • Control of the creatures is indirect but flexible
    • Using their support spells, an Osamodas can boost their pets, but can also modify their behaviour on the fly.
    • What to choose? A dancing Tofu with boosted MP who will attack and then flee, or would you prefer to boost its tackle, so that they can keep an Iop far away?
    • If you think the only way to do things, is to do it yourself, then you can take direct control over your summons with the Possession spell!

The World
  • Discover the remains of old battle sites and many other forts in the Amakna pinewood.
  • The temporal-spatial flaw which switched the position of the 2 beachside taverns has been fixed. The old vessel of Bash Skwal has returned to its owner’s heartland.
  • Some rare resources now appear on the outer islands. Ready for you to find!
  • In the secret mines, zirconium has been replaced with gold.

Ecosystem
  • Blops and Crawlies can now appear in all the ecosystem-enabled areas
    • A zone which is completely Wakfu-balanced will attract Blops.
    • A zone which is completely Stasis-imbalanced will attract Crawlies.

  • It is now important to protect the monsters of your alignment. The Wakfu and Stasis spores they provide are essential for many recipes.
    • Blops and Crawlies create Wakfu/Stasis plants in the zone, from which the player can gather more spores.
    • A skilled trapper can also collect spores directly from the creatures themselves.

  • Attacking Blops and Crawlies is also possible… but it is not without consequences
    • Attacking a Blop is considered a Stasis action. This is obviously not recommended for Wakfu fans, but perfect for the opposing Stasis!
    • Attacking a Crawlie is considered a Wakfu action as they endanger the ecosystem’s stability.
    • Doing so can provide Wakfu/Stasis ashes. But even the greatest alchemists of the World of the 12 are wondering how to use this resource with its obvious great potential.

  • Appearance of Polters, cleaners of the World of the 12?
    • When too many corpses accumulate in a zone, Polters will appear to clean them away.
    • They cannot be attacked, but they do have some secrets to discover…

Items and equipment
  • All Wakfu/Stasis equipment can now only be gained through crafting:
    • All these recipes require Wakfu/Stasis spores, so Blops/Crawlies are important. Both spawning and protecting them.
    • The equipment bonuses have been boosted, along with alterations to the Wakfu/Stasis requirements. Fighting for Wakfu or Stasis has real stakes in play.

  • Consumables that have a Wakfu / Stasis requirement have been added.
    • Like for equipment, these recipes require spores...
    • ...but their unusual or very powerful effects are well worth the effort!

Illness:
  • The Illness system has undergone a big change.
    • They are harder to catch directly from creatures, but are easier to transmit between players.
    • Vaccines are more effective and last longer.
    • The duration of low level diseases are shorter.

Miscellaneous
  • Right clicking on your character now gives you the option to sit. Characters now have different sitting animations.
  • Each smiley’s appearance now matches your class, gender, and have added colour and sometimes animation.
  • The drop rate for Gobbal Warchief Tongues has been increased.
  • The Adrenaline state, enhances your chances of a critical hit by 50% and no longer 100%.
  • Class spell names have been translated for all classes, except the Osamodas.
  • Female Iops now have a bandanna.

Bug Corrections
  • Corrections have been made to certain animations.
  • Corrections were made to the "Hoax", "Crime" and "Hit-and-run" achievements.
  • The feedback when you cannot equip an object has been enhanced to distinguish required level/other conditions not met.
  • The animation of resources that are being eaten by monsters is now fixed (it now reverts to an earlier state instead of growing further).
  • The Feca Spell “Transference” can now be cast on empty cells.
  • The bug that required Xelors to cast on a target standing on an Hour Cell has now been fixed.
  • Traps should now trigger correctly.
  • Cyclone Palm now hits all targets within its Area of Effect.
  • The Karcham spell can only be cast on a valid target.
  • The effect of Traps and the Battle-edge is now applied properly after Tipsy-Turvy.
  • The spell “Chugalug” can now only be cast if the caster is not in the drunken state.
  • The Battle-edge is now applied correctly after a target has been thrown with Chamrak.
  • An enemy who is Knocked Out from the MP-damage effect of Pan-Dalliance will no longer be able to give a final blow after they’ve been KOed.

Hey people!!

I know you’ve been waiting for this… I would be moved too, if I got to meet me for the first time. Why such a vivid, candid person, taking time out of his busy schedule just to share the marvels of his work with you! Oh, how must you feel blessed! Only a pure soul, an incredible being could share the splendor of his creations, without even hinting to a word of praise… My, what a kind and generous person, wouldn’t you say?

I hear noise in the background... Nah, that can’t be right! Didn’t come here for me you say? ohmy.gif You’re interested in what I do, not me? ohmy.gif

I am shocked…

Oh well… Since I have you here might as well show you a little of what I do ^^

I (the only one worthy of such a title), respond to the mellifluous name of “Julian”. I, am an animator on both the game and the “animated” series. ^^

My job consists of taking the character designs drawn by Xa and N’Tamak, and under the guidance and praise of our dear chief animator, Kuri, to give them life. Obviously, while keeping in mind each character’s specific traits, their background, class, race, type, etc. - always while trying to find the best or funniest pose to see a glimpse of delight in your lovely eyes. Who are even lovelier when aimed at me, I might add. ^^

You might wonder just how we create an animation.

Well, I’ll go about it in order…

First, we mimic the action ourselves (as you’ll see on the pictures bellow) to understand what should move, what shouldn’t, where the tension should be in the muscles… what the movement’s rhythm is… and with that we find the “key poses”.

The key poses are the most important parts of an animation - they’re like checkpoints that need to be passed. Once those are done, we add rhythm, which means that we basically set up intervals between the key poses, for the animation to be as smooth as possible ^^ (okay that’s it for the technique part ^^).

Short I know, but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!

Kisses and hugs people! ^^

It is still not finished, so to show how old it is, I add scratches, undoubtedly carried out by an angry zombie Tofu... hungry for human flesh… hum… I think i should mellow down a bit... ^^

Quick idea from our dear "Poolay", history has put a little variation in the stone's colour, usually a little faded, so we apply some reds and greens with a very reduced opacity.

A little greenery from standing around in wet weather! Something we see very often in the north of France. ^^

And ta-da! We add some final shading, with history marking the overall surface one more time! (It is done!).

And there we have it - a cute little statue ready to integrated in-game!

PS. The good graphic artists are the ones who listen to other people's advice. If you make an artwork, don’t hesitate to show it to the people around you and to ask for advice - most of the time you’ll get good advice! Even if you don’t always want to admit it right away. ^ ^

Hope you have a nice weekend!

Alhera,
your humble servant ^^

Hello everyone!

Today, a little graphic venture for you! I will show how to transform an artwork into a stone statue.

So first things first, I already know that the statue will be placed on a pedestal, so I look through the image database and hey, found an existing one! So that’s one thing done. Recycling is very important - it saves us a great deal of time.

Then on to the statue itself! To keep the cross-media ideology, the animation department sends me a drawing of a Sadida Guard from the series. Unfortunately he’s not in the right perspective for what we need ingame, so I have to work on it a little bit.

Okay, after some alterations, here is our guardian put in perspective and “cleaned” (all neat and tidy). It is the beginning of my statue art…

Then I move on to colour variations, and the shadowing of the stone.

I “break up” the stone's surface a little, so that it appears more “rough” and I add some more nuances.

I add "light" shadows

History really shows up on the stone, causing cracks from time, not too exaggerated, but all the same we put some.

And now, using a small trick of Sephy and Jonat on the stones, I add shading and bumps, for roughness and the blemishes, to give the surface a worn look.

Konnichi wa!

You all know Ntamak, right? Lately, he’s been working on adapting characters of the series for the game.
To show you, here are some of the sprites you’ll find in-game in the future!

And that’s where I come in as an apprentice designer.
First, as you know, the back views:

Then we move on to the good stuff, drawing facial expressions.
There are basics ones that are always there (e.g. blink, hit…) and then there are specific ones who depend on the character itself, and the spells he casts.

We also cut up the chars in pieces, that way it’s easier to build them later, and it opens the door to millions of combination possibilities.

So my suggestion for you today, is to try what we call ‘posing’ for yourself, with the PNG exports of Smiss-Mond (basically play around with the pieces to create new poses). I didn’t put all of the expressions and pieces on purpose, that way you can also try to make some yourself! You’ll see it’s pretty simple ^^

Here’s your basic character:

And some basic expressions:

The PNG format lets you move the elements around without too much of a hassle, since it keeps the transparency.

Hope you enjoy it! ^^

I think you’re just used to the way Wakfu used to be…. A world where you could run from one end to the other without any obstacles and without even looking at where you were going… Which in all fairness is pretty absurd - I’ve never even seen that in a video game before.

In Wakfu there are roads, if you follow them you’ll arrive at your destination, if you choose not to, you have to be prepared for there to be consequences, and that means the possibly of a blockage or two along the way.

It’s like with skiing, if you follow the trail you’ll be fine, but go off course and you might hit a tree.

I imagine that some places can be really annoying when you go there the first time, but once you’ve actually been there, you should know and remember how to not get caught in a dead end.

You wouldn’t want us to give you teleportation rights, would you? Exploring a bit won’t hurt! ^^

PS - If there are places that you find to be REALLY stupid, we’ll try to make corrections. You can make a list here of those places (please add the coordinates, the island, and a screenshot if you can) but make sure the changes you are asking for are REALLY necessary. I’ll verify myself before changing anything
