Wakfu v2's Newbie Question Thread & FAQ
To build on the spirit of the Original Newbie Question Thread, but to remove all that old information that is no longer relevant, I am putting up this new thread.
Also, if it is your first time here, please read the Forum Rules of Conduct. And if you are looking to download the game, please read the announcement. The rules for the Newbie Questions Thread are still as follows: 1. If you have a question, post it! No question is too big or too small to answer nor too complex or too idiotic. 2. While answering a question, try to be as nice as possible. 3. Do not make fun of a person for asking a question. Each of us has our own knowledge of Wakfu and others that are new to the game may not know where to find tofus and what not. 4. If you have a question and have posted it, give it a day or two to get answered. Give the members of the forum time to answer it! Not everyone is on these forums 24/7. 5. Try to read through all of the previous posts as your question may have already been answered. We understand that there may be a lot of posts in this thread, but at least make an effort and skim through a couple of pages. 6. Do not... I repeat... DO NOT feel embarrassed for any question that you ask. If you don't understand something, chances are there are tens of dozens of other Wakfu players out there that are wondering the same thing. I will also try to compile all the new individual questions that have been answered into this post, so we can skip a lot of the repeats (consider it an impromptu FAQ). This game is currently in Closed Beta. Closed Beta How do I qualify for the Closed Beta? Those players who kept a character on their account between December 1st 2009, and January 20th 2010, are allowed in. The second option is that you participated in one of the competitions (St. Valentine's, and Create-a-set). There are no Beta Keys, or any other methods currently. When does the Closed Beta end? There is no date as yet to when the Closed Beta will end. Asking repeatedly won't make it happen faster. What happens if I'm not in Closed Beta? If you're not in Closed Beta, you can still use the forums to talk to those who are, and perhaps even win access to Closed Beta from a competition. However, you won't be able to download the Client, and even if you have managed that somehow, you won't be able to log into the server. My account says "State : Beta tester" for Wakfu, doesn't that mean I get in? This only indicates that you are part of the Wakfu Beta community. It does not indicate any specific status with regards to this Closed Beta. Q&A Basics Where can I get an Ankama Account? Click the "Create an Account" link at the very top of this forum (Here). Where do I download the client? The client should only be downloaded from here (PC, Mac, & Linux available). you will be asked for your login details to check you are in the Closed Beta. How do I move around? Left-click where you want to go on the screen. How do I interact with things? Right-click the thing and a bunch of options will pop up for you to choose. How can I fight monsters? Right-click a monster and select the sword icon that appears. What are the penalties for dying? If you die you will suffer death-debt. You will need to "pay off" an amount of XP before you can continue gaining XP, and levelling up, as normal. If this is Beta, what are we supposed to test? Play it until it breaks... then report how it broke. You can learn how to report things here. Characters Can you tell me more about each class? For the currently available classes, you can look here: Cra, Ecaflip, Eniripsa, Feca, Iop, Osamodas, Pandawa, Sacrier, Sram, Xelor. Currently no information about the Enutrof and Sadidia in v2 has been released. Do we know when more classes will be re-added? They will be added roughly at a rate of one every couple of months in the following order: Sadida, and finally Enutrof. The most recent addition was the Osamodas on the 28th of April, but there have been a number of delays. What do all the Aptitudes do? You can find a full breakdown here. Chat commands How can I PM someone? 1. Write /w "nameofperson" message ... e.g. /w "knonaut's eca" meow meow. 2. You can click their name if they have said something in the chat-window. How do you sit? Type /sit. It also heals you faster than just standing. Are there any other emotes? Click the smiley face, found in the bottom-middle of your screen. What are the short-cuts for the different chat-channels? /l is local chat /p is party chat /g is guild chat How can I type the Wakfu will convert the ยง symbol into the Kama symbol. For Microsoft Windows, this may be typed by holding the Alt key, typing the numbers 0167, and then releasing the Alt key. Inventory How do I make my inventory bigger? You can craft additional bags with the Tailor profession, or buy them from other players. The largest bag can hold 15 items. However, you can only use 4 different bags at once, and the first slot is fixed as a "pocket" (10 slots only) that cannot be swapped for something larger. All characters start with a Pocket (10 slots) and a Linlinen sack (10 slots). Can I reopen the inventory overflow box once it has been closed? No. As soon as you close it everything in it is lost. If you want one of the items but have no space, you will have to drop or destroy one of the item you are already carrying to free up some space. Is there a bank anywhere? There is no bank currently, something similar is being planned for the Havenbag. How can I transfer items between my characters? 1. Ask for another player to hold the item while you swap characters. But only use this way if you're sure that player is trustworthy. 2. Find a deserted location. Get both your characters to that spot, do this before you drop the item to avoid the item disappearing in the time it takes to bring the second character to that same location. Drop the item from one character, swap to the other character, and pick up the item. This risks the item being taken when you're not logged in (especially if you have a lot of lag). I found an item with a coloured name. What does that mean? Yellow/Orange: That is a rare item. It is slightly better than other items of the same level. Green: That is part of a set of items. If you wear multiple pieces of the same set, you can get additional bonuses. Blue: That is a key to a dungeon. You need a specific key for each dungeon. Professions What are the initial resources available for the harvest professions? Farmers start with Wit, Herbalists start with Clovassion, Miners start with Iron or Salt, Foresters start with Frene, and Hunters start with Piwis. Where are the profession tools? The Hunters Manual (Hunter) and Hatchet (Lumberjack) are found at the North Hut. The Scythe (Farmer) and Digger's Pick (Miner) are found at the South Hut. Both locations are marked on your map automatically. No other profession needs a tool, and even those professions that do, don't require it for every action. How do I gather resources? Some resources can only be gained by fighting monsters. Others can be gathered from plants, dug out of the mines, or plucked from some animals (without fighting them). This is done by right-clicking the item, and selecting the appropriate option. Where can I find ..... material? "Bag of Silver Filings" is made from Iron. Silver also exists as a high-level mineable resource. Salt is mined. How do I plant seeds? Double-click the seed, and then click on a fertile piece of land to plant it. If the ground highlight green, you'll have a very good chance of planting, but the more red the colour is the harder it becomes to successfully plant. You cannot plant on black-sections. However, different plants like different areas, so some may find ground fertile, that others find red, or even black. The Havenbag Where do I get more shelves for my Havenbag? These can be made at the Woodworks, or can be bought from other players. How can I make my Havenbag bigger? You need to acquire Havenbag Gems, and then place them on the Gem console within your sack. You have a 3-by-3 grid, and each section can contain up to 2 of the same Gem-type (you cannot have 2 different Gems in the same section). A single gem will add a 4*4-sized room, two gems in the same section will make a 5*5 room. If you place 5*5 rooms of the same type next to each other, the gap between them will be filled in, granting you even more space. Where do I find Havenbag Gems? These are rare drops from combat. Rare items like gems, and weapons or armour, will drop on the floor when you kill monsters. You can then pick them up by walking over them in the fight, or after you have won the fight. What do the different colours of Havenbag Gems mean? Green are used for planting and growing things. Orange is for expanding your market section. Everybody starts with one of these. Red are decorative. Blue is for Guilds. How do I make it so I can sell stuff via my Havenbag As soon as an item is placed on your shelves, it can be directly bought from your bag... even if you left the price at 0 If you are near one of the markets, you can pay a small fee (this is set to 0 as the game is still in Beta) to have each shelf linked to the Market-board, just right-click the shelf and select the option. If you exit the game while still in your bag, people will be able to buy from you even if you're not online any more. Where to I get decorations for my Decorative Gem section? These can be made at the Woodworks, or the Jewel-press, or can be bought from other players. Exploring What monsters can I fight? On each starting island are Piwi, rats, ghosts, tofu, flowers, gobballs, boars, araknees, and trees. On the mainland you can find gobballs, crows, scarecrows, wolves, seeds and sea-creatures. The mines contain Larva and Drhellers. How do I get to the other islands? You can either travel through the mines, or use a Zaap to teleport there. Zaaps cost money though. I'm stuck! Try to log out of the character, then log in again. Or type /suicide. If you do this while within a dungeon, you will find yourself back outside. What are the unique dungeons on each Nation's island? Mork: Celestial Gobball Dungeon (a.ka. Prairies Suspendues de Boufbilone) Ohm: Field Dungeon (a.ka. Friche Perdue de Farle) Emelka: Vampire Dungeon (inaccessible) Sevamor: Treechnid Dungeon (inaccessible) These dungeons are only found on the specific island, but are open to everyone. War and Politics Can I change Nation? Not at the moment. But you can visit the other Nations. How do I capture enemy territories? You will have to find and attack the Clan Member in that territory. But they are very hard to fight compared to other monsters. You must kill all the monsters they summon in order to win the fight. How can I tell when elections are held? The start and end time of elections are listed in the Calender (in the communities subsection of the interface). How can I put myself up for election? When an election is ongoing, find a Clan Member and select the option to offer yourself as a candidate. How can I vote for someone? When an election is ongoing, find a Clan Member and select the vote option. Then pick which person you want to vote for. English How do I change Wakfu into English? Read the How to change the game to English thread in the Technical Issues forum. Where are all the English players? Following one of the server-wipes, the community voted to focus on Sevamor as their nation of choice. You may still find English people on the other 3 nations, since nothing forces you to join Sevamor or otherwise, all the nations are open to everyone. Why do some spell descriptions not match the spell's effects? A number of the spell descriptions were translated a long time ago. Since then, the spells have been changed, but the descriptions have not been updated. When are we going to get an English translation? Because it is Beta, a lot of things keep changing around. Sometimes it's a little, sometimes it's a lot. In order to avoid having to throw away translation (which requires time, money, and effort), translation will only really start when the game is around the end of Beta. Since no date is known for when that will be, there is no known date for when an English translation will arrive. The Forum How do I tell old v1 threads from current v2 threads on the forum? Wakfu v2 was released around September 2009, so any threads from before that date usually refer to the old v1 system. Any thread that talks about Strength, Intelligence, Wisdom, Agility, or Chance as characteristics is based on v1 information. How can I pick a forum-portrait? 1. Click "My Controls" at the top right of the forum. Then click "Edit Avatar Settings", select your picture and confirm it. 2. Click here to skip to that second part. Knonaut, I believe you are truly a man amongst men! Yes, it is true. This post has been edited by Kaoly: 16 Jun 2010, 16:04 |

Why is it that every time a try to plant seeds, nothing happens. It keeps telling me that the seeds did not grow. Also, why does planting seeds increase stasis? Planting is not related at all with machinery, actually it is very natural. I would expect it to increase Wakfu.
I have yet to have gotten any crystals for my bag even though I have fought a ton of monsters. I really could use green ones. Is there anything special I have to do to drop them? |

Why is it that every time a try to plant seeds, nothing happens. It keeps telling me that the seeds did not grow. Also, why does planting seeds increase stasis? Planting is not related at all with machinery, actually it is very natural. I would expect it to increase Wakfu. You need to plant on good ground. Green is best, Red is worst (other than Black, which won't work ever). The different plant types like different soil types (except the bag-garden is green for every type). So trees won't grow where crops are. Stasis isn't simply "robots that shoot laserbeams". It's essentially "unbalance", so over-populating an area with frene will increase Stasis. Culling an over-population of Gobballs will increase your Wakfu, even though you're killing animals. Pre v2, Beacons used Mechanics (like Sram Traps) and Decoy used Leadership (like Osa summons). The new system looks like they're both supposed to use Mechanics I think, or at least the same stat, but I suspect they don't (whether the text is wrong, or the code is wrong, I'm not sure). Mechanics and Leadership are both 1 for all classes, so 1 trap and 1 summon, but not 2 summons or 2 traps, etc. This post has been edited by GoldfishGod: 7 Sep 2009, 21:56 |

Right now you can cast luerre first and beacon after that. But if you cast beacon first you can`t cast luerre. So i guess right now luerre doesn`t take mechanism slot but wan`t at least one free mechanism to be cast |

Seems GFG has taken over my job. O_o (I'm don't envy you in the least.
Is anyone else having trouble with the game starting on a black screen if they have too high a resolution? I've had to start my game with a low resolution, then switch back to 1680x1050, and back to a low one before I close it, or else it starts on a black screen. (I'll take this to the technical forum in a minute, but I figured I had to say something to validate the previous statement.) |

What does crafting xp do? Or what is it meant to do? Both of them level your guild's overall level. Not every guild wants to be about fighting.Seems GFG has taken over my job. O_o That's 'cause you sucked at it! QUOTE Is anyone else having trouble with the game starting on a black screen if they have too high a resolution? I think Wakfu simply doesn't support high res, whether by oversight in the art resources/code, or whatever.

I have managed to plant a few plants, just took like 5 seeds per plant. I can't find any ground where the planting is green.

Therefore, it should increase wakfu for planting chardons because they are few, rather than the opposite. I still have yet to drop a crystal, but I have found tons of them on the ground, although I can't manage to pick any of them up because it says that they are unavailable. |

I saw a red gem for sale on the market board and I'm wondering what that does. Decoration room, perhaps?

I have managed to plant a few plants, just took like 5 seeds per plant. I can't find any ground where the planting is green. Nowhere outside a bag-garden is green-rated. Light yellow is probably the best you'll find (e.g. Wit on brown tilled earth-fields).QUOTE My only problem is that there are not many chardons at all. Therefore, it should increase wakfu for planting chardons because they are few, rather than the opposite. Find a resource, and take the seeds, wait for them to re-flower and take more seeds. Don't take the crop unless you have enough seeds to plant a new crop (taking into account "failure to sow"). E.g. 1 wit plant can give around 2-3 seeds. So gather seeds from it 3 or 4 times. Try and plant additional ones while you wait, but don't use up your total supply (this is a precaution in case of crop-thieves... so you can re-seed even if they steal your whole farm). Once you have about 20~30, try a bit more farming. When you hit 100 seeds, gather all your crops in, and then craft the seeds into something (til you have around 50 left). Craft your crop into whatever, and then start again. "low" amounts of one plant doesn't mean it should automatically be a good idea to plant more. Might well be taking Cane Toads to Australia. QUOTE I still have yet to drop a crystal, but I have found tons of them on the ground, although I can't manage to pick any of them up because it says that they are unavailable. My only problem is that there are not many chardons at all. Therefore, it should increase wakfu for planting chardons because they are few, rather than the opposite. Wakfu/Stasis in this case depends on the type of plant you're planting/culling, not the individual. I had the same problem leveling Herb Hunting. There was a ton of higher level herbs, but no beginner level herbs. I planted some to level my herb hunting and it imbued stasis on me. |

That's 'cause you sucked at it! Funny guy. I think Wakfu simply doesn't support high res, whether by oversight in the art resources/code, or whatever. Well, the game supports it, it just can't start on it. I can change the game resolution to anything that my monitor supports once it's running. I just can't leave it on 1680x1050 and exit the game or it will just give me a black screen. This post has been edited by Magicalgnome: 8 Sep 2009, 06:48 |
